The 2004-05 hockey season marks the 30th anniversary of the Thunder Bay Twins first Allan Cup title that made them the champions of senior hockey in Canada. The victory would be the first of five Allan Cups would capture in their storied history.
After claiming the Western Canadian senior title the Twins went up against the defending Allan Cup champion Barrie Flyers.
The series opened in Barrie with the first three games played in the southern Ontario city. Game one saw a high scoring affair in which the hometown Flyers outscored the Twins 8-5.
Thunder Bay rebounded in a big way in game two blasting Barrie 7-2 only to see the Flyers bounce back with a 7-4 win to take a 2-1 series lead.
The Twins then returned home to the friendly confines of the Fort William Gardens and put it in overdrive in front of capacity crowds.
Game four saw the Twins explode offensively once again thumping Barrie 8-2 to tie the series. The Twins took lead in the best-of-seven affair in game five taming the Flyers 5-2.
With a sellout crowd on hand in game six the Twins would not disappoint the hometown faithful skating to an 8-4 victory giving the Twins the Allan Cup four games to two.
The 1974-55 Thunder Bay Twins were inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1987.
