Bio--As
a player Danny Lewicki accomplished a feat that no other player in
the history of the game has ever done before or since.
The Fort William product holds the distinction of playing on a Stanley
Cup, Allan Cup and Memorial Cup winning teams all before
his 21st birthday.
As a 17-year-old rookie Lewicki was a member of the 1948 Memorial Cup champion
Port Arthur West End Bruins. He followed that up by skating for the
Allan Cup winning Toronto Marlboros in 1950 and completed the trifecta
a year later when the Toronto Maple Leafs captured the 1951 Stanley
Cup on Bill Barilko's historic overtime goal.
Lewicki, a left-winger, was a consistent scorer during nine NHL seasons spent
with three teams. Although small in stature, the tenacious forward drove hard
to the net and didn't back down against enemy checkers.
He started his career playing two years with the city's Knights of Columbus
team before joining Port Arthur for their Memorial Cup run. He then moved
on to the Ontario Hockey Association with the Stratford Kroehlers
followed by the Marlboros.
Lewicki debuted with the Maple Leafs in 1950-51 scoring 16 goals. His goal
total could have been even higher, but a groin injury suffered while attending
a team promotional event knocked him out of the final part of the regular
season. It also put to an end any hopes the rookie had in vying for the
Calder
trophy that went to the top first-year player in the NHL. The Calder that
season would eventually go to future hall of fame goaltender Terry Sawchuk.
However that spring Lewicki would return to the Leafs lineup in the postseason
playing nine playoff games as the club would go on to win the Stanley Cup.
Lewicki
was a regular with the Leafs in 1951-52 but spent most of the next two seasons
with the AHL's Pittsburgh Hornets. After scoring 36 goals in 1953-54,
he was named to the league's second all-star team.

In July 1954 he was traded to the New York Rangers and scored a career-high
29 goals that season. Following the season he was voted to the NHL second
all-star team and participated in the All-Star Game versus the Detroit
Red Wings.
Lewicki
was a consistent offensive player in New York for three more years then played58
games for the Chicago Black Hawks in 1958-59.
Before retiring in 1963 he spent four years in the AHL with the Buffalo
Bisons and Quebec Aces.
Danny Lewicki was inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports
Hall of Fame in 1989.
